Planetary Annihilation  Reply with quote

ok so some guys that worked on Total Annihilation/SUPCOM have started there own company, and are trying to kickstart what looks to be an amazing game....

Step 1: go to http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/659943965/planetary-annihilation-a-next-generation-rts

Step 2: Watch the video

Step 3: Change your underwear because of the boatloads of baby gravy in them

Step 4: Donate

Step 5: Profit....

So that looks fucking amazing!!! I love the slightly cartoony aspect of it and the ability to easily scale out. Kinetic bombs built from asteroids... I'll take 2 please

This is a guy that worked on Total Annihilation, Supcom, and Forged Alliance doing an interview about Planetary Annihilation. Pretty interesting stuff, especially what he's talking about doing as far as the scale of battles (tens of hours, 40-100 players, and more).

The game is already available for pre-order, normal edition is game, unique commander, soundtrack, and a wallpaper for $40. For $60 you get the same stuff and beta access. $90 for that, alpha access, and an artbook PDF. Sadly, based solely on who Jon Mavor is and his past exploits, I'm considering the $90... The "extras" are pretty uninspiring, but being able to have input on the alpha would be very interesting.

I know myself and Anreill are in on the Alpha, is anyone else?

Side note, you can buy in at http://store.steampowered.com/app/233250/, but it is at the same price those who funded the kickstarter bought in at ($90.00). It will drop in price when it goes into beta (September) to $60. The "get it at release" package on kickstarter was $40, but it's a lot more likely to stay at the standard $60 or $50 price range at full release. So if you're not absolutely wanting wanting to play this now, you should probably wait until at least the Beta to make your purchase.

We'll probably play a few games of this at the LAN to give everyone a look at it. I'll also see about broadcasting some footage to twitch (twitch.tv/drix013) once I have some idea, and can explain what exactly I'm doing. I'll post and post links to it when I do/once I have.

If I were made of money I'd pay the $90 dollars for early access. However I'm not made of money. I'll be more interested when it's in the $40 range to be sure. I'd be more interested it if were in the $10 range.

That looks great, I love the cartoony look and the size/scale. How is game play so far?

Humble Bundle has it on sale for $39: https://www.humblebundle.com/store/p/planetaryannihilation_storefront

I'm impressed with the game so far. It plays a lot like TA with a modern twist. Unit count isn't out of control and the fun factor is there. Unit selection sucks and performance could be better but its still beta so I don't count those against the game. I don't have much time to play anymore and PA has absorbed all of what little time I have. My last game I was able to crash a moon into the enemy AI and that was awesome!!
