WINDOWS SECURITY ALERT MALWARE - Needs helps!  Reply with quote

So apparently my son was on my work laptop yesterday and clicked on something he shouldnt have....and now I have this motherfuckingposmalware installed that keeps poping up Windows Security Alert yadda yadda. I can't do anything like install adaware or mbyte etc to get rid of the thing.

Anyone have a list of procedures to fix this fucking thing?

I found some info on cnet but everything i try to do doesnt work...... Evil or Very Mad

The fake antivirus apps are sometimes the most difficult to remove.

Certainly let malwarebytes do a full scan, let your symantec finish, and i'd also try

http://www.eset.com/online-scanner

I'd suggest the Kaspersky online scanner too but it is currently unavailable.

If you can google the exact variation of the app you might find removal instructions on hijackthis forums.

Even if the 'vendor' offers to remove the software for $1, do NOT PAY THEM. Most of them will charge you the 'indicated' amount. Many times.

SPeaking of viruses, saw the coolest one ever recently. It would essentially pop up a captcha every 10 minutes, and if you didnt type it in, your PC shut off. You were essentially signing up new webmail accounts for the owners. strichauge

If you require 99+% certainty that your PC is clean... format. I haven't done the helpdesk thing much in a couple years but this was always my mantra back in the day. If a PC that ever plugs into a banking or healthcare or government network gets infected... format.

MS Security Essentials is pretty good at cleaning them up. It is free.

The guy at the mac store told me mac's can't get viruses, so just get one of those...

Cast/Dan are correct in their help statements. I also run the trendmicro free online scan when i cant get something to install.

good luck

Check proxy settings in IE. I bet you have a 127.0.0.1 proxy in there. A lot of those fake AVs do that.

yep and gmail might work because it's SSL... since the fake AV can't see the stream it's just passing it anyway

This is why you should talk to my company and not the Apple Store. They are fu&*ing clueless. There are indeed threats for Macintosh, they are just usually not very serious or prevalent. Buy your Macs from Technology Unlimited, not the Apple Store! We have experience dating back to 1986.
