WAMP
I would like to use WAMP (The Apache, PHP, MySQL Combo program). I am running 64 Vista on the work computer I plan to do the dev on. Any ideas? WAMP is having a CLI has stopped working error anytime I try to start with what I am thinking is the 32bit version.
Thanks guys! _________________ More RAM than Dodge!

Do you have any Linux experience? It may be easier to run a LAMP install in a 64-bit Linux VM and just use VirtualBox's "shared folders" feature.

I have very limited experience. I'll look into doing it that way. Just really wish I could run it easily on Windows. I don't really want to have to buy VM. _________________ More RAM than Dodge!

The good edition of VirtualBox is free, but closed-source.

grab a preconfigured lamp appliance and run it with vmware player, minimal fuss for testing
if you're dealing with HIPAA or any other risk factor, avoid small-fry stuff and roll your own server. the handy thing about vmware or other virtualizations, if you need to move it to a production server you can just move it so an esxi server, etc.
I have nothing against virtualbox, and used it for a long time, but I've avoided it lately. We got burned when Oracle bought VirtualIron (once a promising young product), so I'm avoiding virtualization products with risky futures. vmware isnt going anywhere.

You can boot vmdks on VirtualBox.
We make stuff on VirtualBox and hand it to ESX3 all the time. Takes a little work to go to Xen but I can do that too.

I will have to look at doing that. That sounds like a good idea. _________________ More RAM than Dodge!

First post from Ubuntu running inside of VirtualBox. I like it. Runs really nice. _________________ More RAM than Dodge!

I think I will actually recommend VMware Player in the future now that you can install from ISOs.
IIRC when I first looked at it, you could only run a vmx/vmdk that was provided to you.
I am actually running Solaris 8 Intel in a VM right now... only because of VMWare Player.
VirtualBox crashed about 10 different ways. VMWare apparently carried over their codebase from that time-frame.
