How to build a Nuclear Reactor  Reply with quote

March 19th, 2010 I will be giving a talk on the basics of nuclear fission and fusion. As part of this talk I will be outlining the basics of the construction of a Nuclear Fusion Reactor, a Farnsworth-Hirsch Fusor. If there is time I will also be covering how to build a basic breeder reactor. Not to be done at home as you need a site license from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. I will also be covering other information on amateur nuclear physics.

If you are interested, this talk will begin at 7 or 8pm at the OKCCoCo in Oklahoma City, OK. The OKCCoCo is at 7th and Hudson in midtown across from the downtown federal building. Their website is http://okccoco.com/. There you can find more information on the OKCCoCo, and what the CoCo is all about. My talk will take place during the monthly DC405, the local Defcon group, meeting.

I am hoping that turnout for this talk will be high because of the topic.

The DC405 meeting is a public meeting and free of charge, though a drop in the donation jar would be appreciated. Come check out the DC405, and enjoy some brain enhancing knowledge. http://dc405.org

Check this thread for changes, as I will update it with more information and an exact time later. If there is another talk I will be going up at 8pm. Currently there is not another talk, but that is likely to change.

I've been following Bussard's polywell
If WB-8 is a success, I will probably do this dance

Good luck with your talk!

I've not been able to find much information on the WB-8 or even the WB-7. I know the WB-7 has achieved first plasma, but I've not seen hide nor hair of info on the WB-8. Do you have any good sources for info? I've personally just been hoping to hear that WB-8 gets us closer, if not all the way to a sustainable fusion reaction.

Yeah, I think my dance would be way more awesome than that guy's dance. Though, that is a good dance. Smile

The Wikipedia article actually has some info on WB8 funding
Of course once the Navy/DoD is giving you money, you might end up a little more tight-lipped.

Cool, funny enough, I've never looked at the wikipedia article for polywell reactors. I read basically the same thing somewhere else though. There is a pretty decent thread on the WB series reactors on fusor.net. I just did some looking and can't find it as I've not posted in it. fusor.net has some good info though, and loads of reactor porn, naked pictures of sexy reactors showing off their plasma! Smile

I am goin to try to come and also bring a friend. I don't think I have said anything about it on here yet but I started back to college for industrial engineering. So I am trying to expose myself to as much stuff like this as possible.

I'm afraid I'll need to see your credentials to properly speak on this topic before I can commit to attending.
