Windows 7 Launch party  Reply with quote

So, where to have one?

I got some goodies coming from microsoft to throw a launch party with. If I get it in time, we can do it at the lan (Oct 17th) but officially its supposed to be between Thursday, October 22 — Thursday, October 29, 2009. I probably will not get anything until that week.

You can have it wherever you want, except the lan, I'm holding an Ubuntu install party at my house on the 24th. If you end up holding the party at the LAN, I won't be able to make it.

No, I mean I won't come to the LAN if it is a Windows 7 launch party.

I opened this thread expecting to be grumpy about windows 7 and having to support it. Instead I lolz'd.

Also, nothing against you, Goodboy, or any one who wants to use windows 7, I'm genetically predispositioned to dislike Microsoft.

If you're hosting an Ubuntu install party I highly recommend just setting up a pxe boot server.

I just spent the last week in an Oracle RAC class. I use RAC installations all the time so its not new to me, but we had a heck of a time with our test instances. I swear, I've never met a more convoluted set of software than Oracle. It works great when its up and running, but getting it there is a bitch.

RAC should come with blood pressure medicine.
Fortunately we don't have to set up the actual instances, we just basically provide the hardware + OS + backups and tell the DBAs "Here! Install now!"
Still, when the 10g folder has 900,000 files under it, it makes me think Vista is mighty slim.
We don't use RAC, either.

What is your distro of choice when it comes to 10g/11g installs? We are running RHEL 5 64bit, which I take is the defacto standard when it comes to Oracle installs.

Our typical production environment is 4-6 node RAC instances using ASM mounted diskgroups that exist on our Netapp hardware. This is all replicated at our hot-site using Dataguard. The system I work with is relatively small (500GB) but several of the other systems out there are quite larger, including one 250TB instance.

Solaris 10 on SPARC hardware, dual path fibre to a SAN

we just pay more for the SPARC hardware so we can avoid RAC Wink

Does it count as a Windows 7 launch party when half of the LAN is already running Win7 RTM?
