BIOS Updates
Just wondering if people do this. I'm about to flash my bios tonight for no other reason except the one I have is version 3.3 and the latest one out is 9.1. *shrug* _________________ For with what measure you measure it will be measured to you.

only if theres significant advantages to updating it... too risky without a trusted UPS (which I dont have)
on the other hand if you have a new board with a 'backup' cmos in case the primary is damaged, update away

If yer current setup is stable and everything is supported and you are comfortable with the current OC if you are OC'd at all Id say there's no reason to update one. _________________ I am your mom and I just took you to school in the car of pain.

The latest BIOS for my mobo adds support for X2 processors but I doubt I will be buying a multicore processor anytime soon. Still, I think I might get it just to be current and see if there are any enhancements. Thats all the info says about the upgrade (adds support for X2 processors). Surely theres other things as well with a version number jump from 3.3 to 9.1.
I've been waiting for a fix to the AGP lock so that it actually locks the AGP freq as advertised, but I guess thats never gonna happen. Otherwise I am stuck at a minimal overclock (100Mhz) on this motherboard with a 3000+ processor that should reach 3500+ speeds easily.

I've learned my lesson with the Bios. I only do it if there is a reason too. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. _________________ Atomm Nihilo

Agreed hehehehe.....unless it is something major, I don't jack with BIOS's. Plus who has a floppy disk now to flash the BIOS from? _________________ K-SWISS Power cologne. Who knew you could bottle the scent of boner?

I've pulled my bios chip out while the computer is running and swapped another in there. You guys are paranoid. _________________ Blargle Flarg Bergah Merg

Every motherboard I've bought since my 800mhz thunderbird allowed you to do it from within windows. _________________ Blargle Flarg Bergah Merg

Welp, its a good thing I made a backup of my BIOS before I flashed it. And its a good thing that I was still able to boot to floppy after I did flash it. Even tho this BIOS clearly states its for my exact motherboard down to the neumerical model number it fuxord my system and obviously was fo a diferent motherboard. Windows came up and lost contact with LAN, USB, all HDD controllers, etc. So I had to flash it back to my old version. Everything came back up right away as normal. *whew* _________________ For with what measure you measure it will be measured to you.

I think Shinare now understands those of us who are reluctant to do it just "because". _________________ Atomm Nihilo
