well my Dad is still using an ancient Pentium 4 that is starting to give him more problems then its worth. And well its hard to help him out with issues when you are 1600 miles away.
I am looking to build him a basic computer. The intent is to have it decently fast in all areas, all new hardware, be rock solid stable, have room for future upgrades, use a descent 7200 RPM drive, use a 80+ certified PSU and be descent looking. And all for around 300 bucks (I know it seems a tall order). But this is what I got right now...let me know what you guys think or any suggestions you have.
After an 11.92 in shipping the total comes to 299.86.
So all in all impressed what you can get in a basic comp these days _________________ Core I7 4790K @ 4.7 Ghz

Sadly I have my grandparents on a p2 233mhz system that we built back in 98 or so, still runs like a champ.
I'm not really a fan of biostar motherboards, but with what you have there it looks pretty decent. _________________ this is the internet.

I had one years ago, I'm pretty sure I sold it while it was still working great. I think the biggest thing about it was that it was a little on the vanilla side of things, no advanced tweaking settings. For your use though I'm sure it will work great.
One humorous thing is that before I knew about bios upgrades, I called to ask about getting a bios upgrade so I could run windows 2000 instead of me, and they just tried to sell me a news chip instead of just telling me about being able to flash it. _________________ this is the internet.
