Well I got it in last night finally. Tore down subtlety, removed a couple 74gb raptors and both 295s. Went ahead and finally installed Win7 on this machine for the first time in a few months.

Took a little tweaking but I'm finally seeing positively swell performance out of this puppy. For a single card solution it's pretty fantastic. If I were capable of screenshotting Batman Arkham Asylum you would see an average FPS of 190 Cool

Unfortunately PhysX makes a HUGE difference in 3DMark Vantage, so I'm able to almost match my scores with my GTX 285 SLI but well clear a single 295. Notice the CPU score that should be over 40k if I could enable PhysX Rolling Eyes

I'll be grabbing the Unigine DX11 benchmark and some others later today until the new wears off.

In case anyone hasn't seen the monster that is the 5970, here's a pic for reference with it sitting underneath one of my GTX 295s. I'm really glad I didn't have to remove the hard drive bay for more space.

Well, here are my first benches with CrossfireX 5970s, and then later adding a 295 for PhysX.

Alot of the benches seem to have shakey support for CrossfireX as seen in 3DMark Vantage where it just DEMOLISHES Feature tests at better than double the FPS of the single card but pales in the GPU tests. Currently I have also not been able to apply the CrossfireX hotfix for Dirt 2, so those FPS results are from a SINGLE 5970 with everything on Ultra but Post Processing and it is GORGEOUS!

I think that as the drivers mature it would be a viable option, but on the other hand this is so much power that even I think it is silly. I have already practically sold my original Sapphire 5970 OC and will be keeping my Asus card. Also just bought a used PNY GTX 275 for PhysX so I think that will do just fine for quite some time until 5970 prices and drivers get more reasonable.

Moral of the story, Q3 in January!

It ran at 320x240 windowed in a 640x480 screen and you could see 2 pixel rows of it. It was pretty swell.
