Tax season is/was upon us, and I got monies back so I decided to start building a new desktop rig for the LAN and also to take care of the games my y410p can't handle with all the purdies turned on.

No pics yet, but you'll get 'em.

Current specs:
-Xeon E3-1231v3 @ stock
-8GB Samsung 'Magic' RAM @ stock (probably upgrade to 16GB down the line)
-Gigabyte GA-h97n-WIFI
-120GB PNY XLR8 for OS's
-250GB PNY XLR8 for Games and stuff*
-PNY GTX970 4GB*
-Silverstone SG05 + 450W SFF PSU

* indicates I don't actually have the part yet. I'm currently using a donated 8800GTS for video out since the Xeon has no iGPU.

Eventually I plan to WC the whole thing internally, because wtf not?
It's not up to LAN snuf yet, but makes a good media server.

It's essentially the same chip as whatever normal line chip it matches up with. 4770 in this case I think, but doesn't have the video and doesn't turbo quite as high and is a little bit cheaper.

Anriel nailed it. It's a 4770 without the GPU I'd not planned to use anyway. Saved a few bucks on it and it kills anything I throw at it. Right now it's just kinda serving my PLEX media and light gaming since I don't have much time. This build is definitely playing out over time. Don't plan to pick up the 970 for another few months at least. It's able to 'archive' my Blu-rays at full quality in under an hour, which is pretty nice. Also, it runs a little cooler than the comparable i7 does, and while it doesn't OC really, I hadn't planned on doing much of that anyway.
Ultimately this build is to try to cram as much power into a shoebox as possible and then watercool it internally because reasons.

Interesting.. did not know that. I always thought server destined hardware always cost more than consumer stuff. Thanks for the tip. Smile
