The new PC is FINALLY DONE!!!  Reply with quote

So this is my latest build. Its been three long years since I've built a personal and I was overdue. The case is an NZXT Phantom 630. I prefer full size cases, but they are a pain to move around. I dropped in an ASRock Z97x Mobo and an i5 4690K processor. 16GB of Corsair Vengance RAM, with 16 more on the way. Graphics are provided from 2 EVGA GTX 970 Superclocks running in SLI. Storage comes in the form of 4 Crucial 256GB SSDs. 1 for the OS, 1 for music, 1 for videos and one for games. I plan to add two WD Black 4TB drives in Raid1 for mass storage. Lastly, power comes from an EVGA 750 G2, which is fully modular. I dressed it up a touch with a fully sleeved cable set and Corsair fans all around. Also, the CPU is cooled by an Enermax 120 cooler, with Artic silver 5 thermal compound. I did a small bump on the processor to 4.0Ghz, just to see what it would do. In the end I'll step it up to 4.5, but probably not beyond that. For now the processor is staying at 48c when stress testing the processor. Running 3DMark for dual GPU systems, I'm scoring 98% higher than other systems. So all in all, I think it turned out great. Still some minor tweaks to do to it though. It all just takes time. Let me know what ya think.

I appreciate the fix. The wiring still needs to be dressed up a bit. Glad you like the build. I think if I get into this LAN thing I'll probably build a smaller/portable friendly rig. This thing is a tad big. I'm downloading BF4 as I type this. Damn its a huge file!

That's badass. I think an SSD dedicated to music is a little overkill, but to each their own. I want it!

I agree on the music ssd. When I get the two WD drives, I'll drop the music and video over there. Then use 2 ssd in raid 0 for my os. Then possibly raid 0 the other 2 ssd for games. All overkill for sure, but I like playing with raid for some reason...

Why waste a good SSD on RAID 0? They are fast enough as is......?

It might not be the case anymore, but back in the day it was always recommended to put the ram closer to the CPU for the most optimal setup. You still want to say in dual channel by having 1 card in each bank, but you would move them both 1 slot closer to the CPU.

Did the PS come wired or was that custom? It looks incredible.

The cables came from http://cablemod.com/. I tried doing the individual cable sleeving myself. Had someone been in the house while I was trying to do it, said cable would have been a key piece of evidence for convicting me in a murder trial. I've done wire and electronics for years, but cable sleeving is not my thing. So I cheated and bought them pre-sleeved. I was very pleased with the quality. They have a lot of color options, but not for very many power supplies just yet. The two current RAM slots are what ASROCK recommends for 2 sticks, but I will be adding 2 more so all 4 will be filled. Glad you like the build. It still needs some tweaks. I hope to make it over sometime. Show it off in person and game for a while. I played BF4 for the first time earlier today. It will take some getting used to but it'll be fun either way...

All of this and I'm already doing upgrades. Corsair CPU 240 radiator and quiet edition fans. Damn the upgrade addiction!

Looks excellent, diggin the black and red theme. If I had to mention anything, your motherboard SATA cables look a little twerked to the side. Not sure if I would trust that connection. Otherwise: WOW!!

Yea, I've got new sata cables on order. The grommets didn't quite line up like i wanted. I've got round cables coming and routing them so no crooked connections.
