Video Card Upgrade Time.....  Reply with quote

Looking at getting a new vid card to replace my 560 Ti 2Gb.

Confused as hell about the way Nvidia names and markets their cards now as it appears a 670 is faster than a 760. WTF?

Whats the best bang for the buck Nvidia card out right now that isn't stupid expensive? Or do I wait for the 800 series if the jump to say a 760 isnt worth it yet.

I game at 1080....

Thoughts?

I am using a 780, but that is an enthusiast card.

I would say the 770 is really good, judging from the benchmarks. Definitely look into that.

So can anyone explain just what the difference is in the 760/770/780? And how does the 700 series relate to the 600, as I have seen the 670 will kick the 760's ass.......so confusing. Higher numbers used to always = faster card. Damn Nvidia and Intel and their stupid numbering systems lol.

x60 = mainstream
x70 = high performance
x80 = enthusiast

a n70 or n80 will generally outperform a (n+1)60

Better perspective

760 = 670 = 580
770 = 680 = 590
780 = Titan

^ That shit right there is fucking confusing as hell....

So by that logic a 3 year old 580 is the same as a brand new 770.....?

So what is the BEST bang for the buck or should I wait till the 800 series to see a real % gain if performance?

In a nutshell... Yes. 770 Would be your next real step up if you ignore the 680 (which is really hard to find now)

760 is probably the best mid tier card you can buy right now. AMD is about to release a new set of cards very soon so I cant speak for them.

Im a Nvidia fan boy, too many issues over the years with shit AMD drivers etc lol. Well I will see how BF4 runs, if good then may wait till the Nvidia 800's and jump from 5 to 8 series.....

If it helps Brules, the first number of an Nvidia card is the generation, not the level of performance. As Lain's graph shows, each generation improves performance about the same as 1 step up in the same performance "level" of the previous generation. If for example you had a 580, you'd need a 670 or better to improve your performance. This isn't a hard and fast rule but it is reasonably useful for a quick calculation.

As soon as the BF4 beta releases, we should start seeing some benchmarks for it and you'll be able to make a more informed decision on what to buy.

I think at this point I have decided to wait till the 800 series comes out and I will get an 870 and make a big jump from a 560 to an 870......I can't see BF4 taxing my system much more than 3 - since it is the same engine essentially and i only run in 1080.

Shinare - when you coming to a LAN to play some BF4 with us!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!
