July was a lot of fun with some newer games being played. I can't wait to get another game of PAYDAY: The Heist going again. We need to try some of the objective game modes in multiplayer GTA IV.

Smite, Dota 2, GTA IV, and Trials Evolution Gold.

I have to say that Trials is one of the best games I've played in awhile. The polish level is incredible and I can find almost no fault in the game.

So... Your Admin email has been full for like 6 months Smile I've sent info on this before, but now that Tokyo in Tulsa has ran a successful PC lan, I'd think it'd definitely be worth your time to do. Also, OKgamers has more PC LAN's in the future planning out; it'd only be to your advantage for us to finally have a event listing that we can point people to Smile What I sent:

Hey! We just had a 12 team LoL LAN at TnT; now might be a good time to setup your event as a recurring PC LAN event in our brand new calendar:

www.okgamers.com/events

(Re-occuring, as in you don't have to do anything other than tag some of the games you usually play, and set it's category as PC Gaming, link to this site and include the way it reoccurs in the description - and we can set it up to pop up monthly!! People will even be able to add it to their calendar via subscribing once you've submitted this event Smile )

I've been playing this really cool new game that I think came over somehow through the iron curtain called "Tetris"... its pretty kick ass on my EGA monitor.

I was looking into your Tulsa LAN since I live in Tulsa, but, i'm not into playing LoL at all. Seems you all have a pretty set couple of games you play. Are there any plans to do something more relaxed?

Not OKGG...they are just trying to gain players from our reputation IMO

OKg is not OKGG.

OKgamers is a non-profit group trying to centralize gaming event info in the OK area.

We've been actively promoting all sorts of events for all sorts of gaming groups for 7+ years now.

OKGG hasn't really taken advantage of that every year; you had something up in our "first gen" forums, however we revamped; now we have a calendar solution that really REALLY makes it easy to dig down to what you want - PC, a certain game title? Etc? And subscribe to JUST THAT so it comes straight into your calendar.

OKgamers isn't trying to "gain players from your reputation" - we are trying to provide you more players.

That's all we've ever done.
That's all we do.
We don't charge money.
We don't do anything, other than ask event coordinators to post their event info on whatever we "have at the time". Currently - the Calendar solution also allows for repeat events - so you don't even need to "bump the thread" like you did back in the day...

"WELL - WHY DO YOU DO EVENTS THEN!"

Because 7 years ago, when OKGG didn't pop up in any of our google searchs (sadly; we wouldn't have used "OKgamers" if we had found an "Oklahoma Gamers Group" in existence first...) we started OKgamers as a "central resource". An event resource - with no events listed? Useless. So as we gained promotion we worked with local volunteers and businesses to "throw OKg based events, to 'prime the pump' and get awareness of a gaming resource out there". We now refer to those as promotional events; you can read more here:

http://okgamers.com/promotionalevents

--

I understand any concern about "that new kid on the block" - however. OKgamers has been promoting gaming in OK for over 7 years; it's hard for me to pinpoint exactly how OKGG's leadership feels about us. At first you sorta blew us off, then you posted your content; and like I said - it's been a while since it was updated.

I personally have spoke of you guys many, many, many times. When people ask about LAN events in Oklahoma? I bring you up.

...however. If this is promotion you do not want, please let me know. I've emailed "admin@" several times over the years trying to either further our efforts, or end them so we aren't bothering your group. Like I said - it's been full.

--

Digitaldreamer7 - LoL has a "community lead", or a gamer we can work with to know we are providing the right rules, meeting event expectations, etc. That's why LoL had an event, and others didn't. SMITE and Dota2 have CL's, but they were just getting started before TnT happened, so we just promoted some about potential SMITE / DotA2 - no big $1,500 tournament pot, etc.

OKg does occasional events to help remind people we exist - we do our best to avoid overlapping with existing events and groups already catered to. We'd focus on LAN's more, but they have such a large footprint, and before LoL? Let's just say no one ever materialized; we tried bringing LAN's to 3+ conventions, group after LAN group just flaked out. Now, OKGG never did that; when we approached them to team up they said they weren't interested in traveling / organizing events outside of their city. In 7 years, we've not had a business request us to organize anything LAN based there, so we've basically just didn't bug OKGG Smile

More relaxed - several LAN related events at large "yearly events" are in the works; and we've discussed yes. Having more casual / open LAN aspects. TnT did have over 10 tables dedicated to BYO, just fyi Wink But, it was our first year to include a PC LAN at the event, so I'm not surprised we didn't get that out there much, etc.

--

OKGG - OKgamers has word of mouth promoted you since practically day one; it would really help us if you posted your monthly event again, just in our newer solution, the calendar. Like I mentioned, it's able to be set up to be recurring, and it'd be something "always on the PC section" - since you do it monthly. However - it's a free site, and a free country. We ask you to do it because we believe in building community and helping OK know where the gaming is at. It's come up due to the success of LoL and the future PC LAN people we are getting more attention from. We aren't competing with you; in fact we only organize LAN based events at regional / convention / multi-day level events when they've grown to that scale of needing to support that aspect of gaming. TnT has been the largest gaming event in OK for the last few years; it was just natural to include LoL as it's grown so much locally and has such a strong community.

...it's just sad to get PC LAN people interested, and NOT have your events clearly listed on the site. Word of mouth is only so good if we can't direct them to your resource. You've posted before, but we don't know if management has changed, or you've changed your mind. Goahed's comments leave me with the feeling that you see us as a competitor, or don't want the help in promotion. Scale can also be an issue I'm sure, so it's possible you guys were wanting to stick at a certain size? It's been years since I've caught up with your admins, and just know - whatever you want is not a problem; just let us know so we can go from there.

I saw that at TnT but it didn't get much traction because it wasn't advertised as such. Hauling out my equipment to be one of 3-4 people there on a PC, who play something other than LoL or DOTA 2 isn't what i'm looking for. I do look forward to things that are more relaxed though and as long as my schedule permits (not on the third saturday of the month) i'd be interested. I'm just not interested in your console gatherings, the few i've been too attract a significantly younger crowd, admittedly that was a few years back.

Digital - well, TnT had 6,000+ people, and on the PC side of things, we had over 80 documented PC gamers come through, play in the tournaments, etc. (Documentation being the hard thing, as we didn't require tracking of BYO numbers, nor those that used the 10 sponsored rigs...)

The event calendar on OKgamers is made to serve any gamer in the OK area. That's one of the reason I'm so hopeful the OKGG admins will submit their reoccuring event.

The site exists for the calendar; a few volunteers help organize "promotional events" to expose to gamers the resource it is.

PC gamers are paying more attention due to those promotional events. We even have several PC only sponsors actively working with us.

OKGG has been around for years; we'd like to continue to help promoting your group and events. Especially now that we are getting PC gamers visiting the site LOOKING for something like you. There's even a PC only event calendar category; sadly missing any upcoming events because OKGG is the only ongoing PC based public event we even know of. Check out the new calendar here: http://okgamers.com/events/

Yeah, I've tried to have this discussion before.

Not sure why everybody has an issue with OK Gamers, I've talked to you myself several times and never really got what the stink was about. For some reason there's a perception of being ripped off that has no real basis in logic.

As far as events. I've put things on OKG several times, but never really gotten much response to them. I'll go ahead and relist things and see if it goes anywhere.

Edit: You might want to look at your calendar. The 19th in default view has so many items on it that OKGG doesn't show up. If I set it to show PC Gaming category it just whites out and never does anything.

EditEdit: Also filled out the info for inclusion on the PC groups list. Used our site address instead of our Facebook group though.

And I remember your name and you posting Smile
I assure you - if you guys were private or just didn't want to be promoted, I'd leave ya alone Wink People just getting confused = normal. We aren't a business - OKgamers is a non-profit. We aren't after your people, we are trying to keep OK area gamers informed. There's NOTHING WORSE as a gamer than missing an event for a game you care about, right down the road...

As for the event not showing up, it's a submission process - we don't just put things straight up because of porn, etc.

Looking at your submission, I modified it a bit based on your site info, here's the link:
http://okgamers.com/events/okc-okgg-lan

My only remaining question - any PC games we can tag for you that you regularly like to play? That'll add even more opportunities for gamers to see your event, and could help spread the word faster.

--

As for a lack of response - it's hard for people to understand "all gamers", and worse it seems if one promotional event we do doesn't cater to them. To complicate things - OKgamers is just an event site; when we do our "promotional events", we have a rule about avoiding communities already catered to. CCG, Tabletop, etc - those are heavily catered to, so unless it's a convention level event, we don't organize them, we just point people to the calendar events that do. We've organized a lot of promotional events for console gamers - because there weren't any businesses or groups doing so.

When it comes to PC? It just requires such a large footprint to do right; not to mention we haven't found any groups that want to travel, or they disappear too quick, lol. We've changed that with Tokyo in Tulsa growing to the size it is, and some future events I can't speak to yet.

People ask about PC LANs, I always bring you guys up. Course, after Goahed's comment, I began to worry you had became a private group, or just didn't want said promotion. Thanks for clearing things up.

Your event is up now, and recurring on the 3rd Saturday. If you have some titles you are open to playing and we can list, I'd love to know that now. For the future, if you ever have any edits you want to make to it, just let us know - the contact form on the site goes straight to the staff!

If you look at the registration you'll get a pretty good list of what's current. Though humorously Battlefield 4's beta won the voting but won't actually be available at that point, as they're ending the beta after only two weeks.

Outside of what's on the list, generally if somebody wants to play something and can talk others into it, it will get played.

And thanks for setting it up with more info and recurrence.

Awesome, thanks. Yea, with OKg's current tag system we stick to IP, so I just put it down for Battlefield; threw in some of the other top votes as well.

Thanks for helping us help gamers find out what's going on - keeping Oklahoma Gamers informed is what we are after Smile

On the Group Resource request, I'll get you added now!
