Best Description EVER  Reply with quote

I was reading a yahoo question that someone posted and saw the best answer I have ever heard anyone give to the question:

Whats the difference between an automatic and a semi automatic gun?

Answer:

You have a gun in your hand. It is loaded with a lot of ammunition. You squeeze the trigger and hold it.

If it goes "Bang" then just sits there, you have a semi-automatic.

If it goes "BangBangBangBangBangBangBang..." until you finally let go of the trigger or it runs out of ammo, you have an automatic (also called full-auto).

If it goes "BangBangBang" then just sits there, it is probably still a full-auto, but it has a switch that allows you to fire a 3-round burst. This switch, which allows you to select different modes of firing, gives that particular gun the additional designation of "selective fire."

Nice to know SOMEONE gets it. The sad thing is that after that answer, over 35 people TRIED to answer it better, all either restating this in a worse way or totally failing.

But you can have a gun that goes "Bang" and it still not be semi-automatic.

That wasn't the question, though. The question was Semi-auto vs Auto.

True, it should really say that a semi-automatic, after going "Bang" automatically ejects the spent cartridge and inserts the next bullet, but does not fire again until the trigger is released and pulled again.

I stand corrected. They should have been more detailed.
