Help me find a gaming laptop  Reply with quote

I'm thinking something with at least an nvidia 970m or better. Budget is $1000 +- $200. I'm down for the refurbs, and was thinking about an ASUS ROG 751 series because they have some refurbs on newegg for cheap.

Seconding Sager.

Have recommended them to several people with good results. Even out of warranty parts are attainable (Mike is/was a dealer).

I just got a razer stealth, it's very nice, although not a gaming laptop by itself per se.

I changed my mind, bought a new monitor, video card and processor. Hoping the proc and vid card come in before the lan. The monitor is already here.

I got my FX 9590 today. Just installed it and its great, I don't notice any difference, but I didn't really expect to. I have two 1070s coming in Tuesday. Its been a long time since I've had such a higher end machine and I'm quite excited. I had originally ordered a 1080 Founder's edition, but the ship date got pushed back into August. I decided that I'd spend just as much and get 2 1070s instead.

Don't do 1070s in SLI. Unless you are doing big monitor gaming, you don't need the horsepower. If you are doing big monitor, a single 1080 is a much better purchase. Using Shadow of Mordor benchmark, my brother in law's 1070 with a slight OC was 3-4% slower than my stock clocked 1080 at 1920x1200. At 4K my 1080 should widen that gap significantly. If you don't need that a res, a single 1070 should play whatever/however you want.

So, my current case doesn't have room for both cards. It has a portion of the drive bay that can be removed to allow longer video cards, however there is still the other side of the drive bay in teh way. As of right now I can only fit one card in. Still, this is much better than my 960. I ordered the case shown above to fix this problem.

NICE! I love that case and considered getting it but I'd have to get a new motherboard. Instead I optioned for the fancy smancy case I posted.

Yeah my current rig should be a direct transfer.....I cant see any need to upgrade my i5/16gb ram/ SSD set up......new case and vid card should give me 2-3 more years.
